I like the hour when the city finally exhales.
Portland rain tapping gently against tall windows, a single lamp spilling warm amber across the hardwood, the low hum of vinyl turning in the corner. I move slowly then — barefoot, oversized sweater slipping off one shoulder, hair still damp from the shower. There’s something about that quiet pocket of night that makes me want to be close to someone who really listens.
I’m not loud about wanting attention. I don’t need to be. A long look held one second too long, the way fingers brush when passing a warm mug, the soft catch in someone’s voice when they realize I’ve been watching them speak… those are the moments that stay on my skin hours after the conversation ends.
I believe the best nights are built from small, deliberate intimacies — shared silence that doesn’t feel empty, a voice pitched low just for me, the slow drag of fingertips along the inside of a wrist while we pretend we’re only talking about music.
